Iona is at Heacham

Trip 12, Heacham Sports Club, Norfolk.

We arrived at the campsite and we were given a pitch that was flat so there was no need for the ramps this time.  After lunch we went for a walk. Heacham village has a store and a couple of fast food takeaways, a pub, a social club and as you get nearer the beach there is another restaurant/ pub. At the beach you have fish& chips and cafes, but it is not as intense as Hunstanton or Skegness. On the south beach there is another pub that has live entertainment.

The people are friendly and it is easy to make small talk.We went to the north beach and walked along the beach to the south beach and the back into  Heacham via the path along the floodbank. We stopped at the social club for a drink and then back to the campsite. I did a bbq for tea.

Day 2.

Today we headed down to the north beach and then walked  along the coast to Hunstanton. The town was busy and we headed for the camping shop to get some gas but it was too expensive and we still had a new can at the van.

We walked to the Sunset Bar and sat outside on the veranda with a drink so we could watch people on the green, although the green is now brown from the drought.

We caught the bus back to Heacham and stopped at the social club for a beer before going back to the van.

Later we met Elaine and we went to the social club for a drink or two. We left the club just as it started to rain. We got a bit wet but stopped at the football Pavillion to shelter from the rain.

I was a bit concerned that all the chairs were outside the motorhome and the skylights in the van were open. I took a deep breath and ran across the football pitch to the van so I could shut the skylights and get some waterproof coats for Sue and Elaine.

We got back to Iona and I was soaking so I changed , the ladies were Ok.

The sun then came out and I cooked on the bbq outside. After tea and a long chat we walked Elaine partly home. I had to become a duck warden when a duck and her offspring decided to walk up the road in front of the traffic. I got them to the side and they stayed on the grass verge.

Day 3.

Sue wanted to walk to Snettisham so I asked the sat nav how far it was. 2.7 miles. We walked down towards the south beach and joined the path along the sea flood bank. It seemed to go on forever and the paths I wanted to take were private farm tracks so we walked to the Snettisham beach car park and headed up the beach road towards Snettisham.

It started to rain before we had reached the village but we had our coats with us today. We eventually reached the Rose & Crown pub and my watch said we had walked 7.2 miles.

We felt tired so after a drink we decided to eat at the pub, Sue had a Antipasti for one and I had the belly pork starter. The food was good and although they were only starters we had had enough.

The pub has a good atmosphere and the staff and customers were friendly and we had some banter with them before we left. Once outside Sue could not find her bus pass so I went back in to pick it up from the table, much to the amusement of the men at the bar.

We caught the next bus back to Heacham and ofcourse we had to walk past the Social Club, so we called in for a drink in the sunshine before returning to the van just before it started to rain again.

Day 4.

We stayed around the motorhome in the morning and then Sue’s sister and her husband joined us. We walked to the South beach and the Silver Sands pub. We spent a couple of hours there and then it poured with rain so we stayed a bit longer until the rain eased. We then walked back to Heacham, Elaine and Harvey left us to walk to their home and we carried on back to the campsite, stopping to get a Chinese takeaway on the way.

A great last day of our Heacham holiday, tomorrow we head home.
