Trip 11. Royal York Yacht Club, Regatta Field, Bridlington.
We left early at just on 9.00am to get a good start to Bridlington. We knew we had to pass Lincolnshire Showground and there was a big event starting today. Sure enough there was a bit of a hold up until we got past the Showground and then the traffic got much better. We arrived in Bridlington at 11.35am.
Today was the opening day so there were not many campers here, we were the 10th camper to arrive. We got to pick a pitch and we were soon set up and watched others struggling in the wind to put up awnings etc.
After lunch we read a bit before going down to the beach and walking towards Bridlington before returning to the campsite which was quickly filling up.
The afternoon was spent chilling around the motorhome before it was beer o’clock. I was volunteered to cook on the BBQ tonight. Sausages and amazing burgers, although a bit crispy on the edges. Just a bit too windy to stay outside tonight.
Day 2:
We stayed around the motorhome this morning until after lunch. The wind had change direction and the windbreak is in the wrong place. We walked to the beach and found a place near the sand dunes. It was nearly low tide so the sea was far far away.
We stayed on the beach reading for a couple of hours and the Sue went back to the van and returned with a can of wine and a beer for me.
We stayed for another hour and then went back to the campsite. The wind is not strong but the sun is hazy and it feels a bit cold.
Day 3:
The sun is out so we spent the morning at the campsite,the after lunch we walked into Bridlington and called in at Riches where we got a drink and sat upstairs on the roof terrace where we could watch people on the prom.
We left Riches and walked into a part of the town that we had not visited before. Sue found a second hand shop that had a handbag she needed so I waited, and waited outside. We walked up the promenade and found the Prior John Pub which just happens to be a Wetherspoons, we stopped for a drink in the beer garden.
Then it was the long walk home via Boots and more shopping and then home.
Tonight I get to cook again, salmon with a garlic & herb topping followed by a burger. The Atmospherics are bad and we can only get a few channels on the TV. No BBC hooray. We took the windbreak down as rain is forecast this evening.
Day 4:
The morning is overcast and with a sea mist, it did try to rain last night. Once we were up and all the jobs done we headed for the beach. It was high tide but we were able to walk for 2 miles before turning back. It did rain on the walk home but I got wetter paddling along the shoreline.
We stayed around the motorhome until 18.00. We then walked to the Fish & Chip shop. We took our tea to the beach and ate our Fish & Chips in the sun. Obviously we took a drink with us and we people watched.
A particular entertaining event was a mum and her small son. After spending time crawling in the wet part of the beach he decided to head for the sea. His Mum eventually gave up catching him and took him to the shoreline to see the waves. He then toddled about in the sea, attached to mum, before returning to the waterlogged beach.
Tomorrow we go home so we sat in the sun and then packed everything away ready for the morning. Another great 4 days at the Yacht Club Regatta field.
