The Airbag ECU has died.

We were on our way to Avon Bank Meadows and the Airbag ECU failed again. The warning lights were flashing along with the seat belt warning lights. They all went out , then came on and eventually settled with just the airbag warning light remaining on.

We carried onto the campsite. I rang Crash Data who repair the modules by resetting them and I explained what had happened.

We came to the conclusion that the ECU module was beyond repair. I explained that we were away but they said they did not need the broken unit because they already had the data to set up a new unit for our van. They would do that ready for when they received the payment.

When we got home the following weekend, I sent them the payment on Sunday. I received a brand new 2023 unit the following Tuesday, preset for our motorhome so I only had to swap it with the old unit.

The unit is to the right of the vehicle battery, remove the negative from the battery before you remove the unit.
A piece of trim under the centre unit is removed (2 screws) for better access to the three bolts.
The new unit arrives set up ready
The old unit is 2016 with the newer 2023 unit ready to go in.

Apparently after reading forums etc the 2016/17 units are not very reliable after a few years. Fiat have updated the unit several times and I have just received the latest unit dated February 2023, so hopefully it will go on for years, at £300+ it needs to.

This is the third time I have done this exercise so it only took me 25 minutes and everything was back and working.🤞🏻
