Trip 9, July 2025, Cracken House Farm, Leyburn.
It took us just under 3hrs to get here. The two lots of roadworks and a broken down lorry set us back 30 minutes.

The stewards are great and we got a pitch with a scenic view which was pretty flat. We decided to put up just the windbreak to start with.
After lunch we sat in the sun/wind reading and then walked into Leyburn. We stopped for a drink at the Black Swan and then had a walk around to check the shops etc. we had a look at the Bolton Arms pub hotel and we decided the outside seating would be better next time we stop for a drink.

Tonight we had some pork ribs ,salad and chips for tea.
Day 2:
Today we are going to walk along the Shawl. We left the van and walked into Leyburn. The first stop was the Campbells supermarket to buy sausage rolls. The problem is that this shop is like no other. There were 12 different flavours of sausage rolls, then there was the different flavours of pasties.
Next to the bakery/Deli was the butchery section. The selection of sausage was amazing. The actual butchery counter had a fantastic display of meats and a BBQ section. It was hard not to buy anything.
We left Campbells and headed to the Shawl, this is basically a cliff top escarpment overlooking the valley.

We walked along the cliff top to the end of the Shawl but decided to turn back and find a bench to eat lunch. The alternative was an extra 4 miles and Sue was suffering a sore foot.

We ate our lunch looking out at a fantastic view before heading back to Leyburn. Once we reached the town we headed for the Bolton Arms pub which turned out to be far better than our previous stops.
Day 3
Today we walked to Hamby and then down to the river Ure. Our walk took us back up hill to the church in Leyburn.

We then walked into town and stopped for a beer at The Bolton Arms before heading to Campbell’s to buy some pulled pork Sausage rolls and Onion bhajis

Then onto look for a desert for tea. After a couple of bakeries we headed to the Coop and bought some chocolate fondants along with some bread and cider.
We ended up back at Iona after our 5.5 mile walk.
Day 4
Today we stayed at the campsite and chilled by reading. The sun was strong and with no wind it was hot.
Tea tonight was beef burger wraps which actually turned out well.
