Trip 8. June 2025, Stratford Race Course

The trip took a couple of hours and we arrived to a very busy campsite. There is so much room that we were offered electric or non electric pitches. We went non electric and we just chose a patch of grass at the end of a row.
We just put the wind breakup at first but we may put the quest room up later. We settled down and had lunch and took advantage of the sunny weather.
Later in the afternoon we went for a walk into Stratford upon Avon. Sue was unaware that my goal was the Dirty Duck Pub. We walked across the racecourse and followed the path to the river Avon.
We walked past the church where William Shakespeare was buried, and through the cemetery to the Royal Shakespeare Company park.

We passed The Other Place which is a theatre, then, as if by magic there was the Dirty Duck Pub on our left. So I persuaded Sue to follow me in for a drink, we grabbed a table outside and we just sat and watched people. It was so relaxing that we stayed for another before we left.

We left the pub and headed passed the Royal Shakespeare Company theatre to the park, we found a bench and listened to an actor recite odes and prologues from Shakespeare’s plays.

Tonight we have Pork ribs and salad for tea.
Day 2.
Today we walked into the town and wandered around the streets taking in all the historic buildings and sculptures, there were the normal variety of statues that come alive and some buskers. Very soon we found a Wetherspoons pub, the Busy Bee. We called in and got a drink and then decided to order a meal and a drink for lunch.

The food and drinks were good and the bill was superb.
We then walked home and spent the afternoon reading.
Day 3.
We walked into town again but this time along the river. We sat listening to a busker and watching people. Sue had a soft ice cream, Mr Whippy style that melted in the heat.

We walked home and bypassed the pubs. We headed to the old railway carriage on the Stratford Greenway, it is called Bobby’s, we ordered a drink before going across the race course and home.
I went for a bottle of Peroni lager and Sue had a can of cider. £11.50 what a rip off. Add to that my 330ml bottle of beer was non alcoholic after all. I was well peed off.
The sun was very strong when it came out from behind the clouds but the wind was very strong. We tied the van door open but it was too windy to have any windows of sky vents open.
Day 4.
Our last day.No events today. We walked into Stratford via the path on the opposite side of the river.
We reached the park and crossed the river bridge.
We stopped at the Dirty Duck and had a couple of drinks in the garden before people watching at the park.

When we started the walk home we walked to the canal lock that links to the river. We watched the boats for a while and then headed over the river by the old tramway bridge.
We walked through the park and on the river we saw a Black Swan, we heard that it had been there a few days but the normal white swans would have nothing to do with it.

We crossed over the river to follow our normal route back to the racecourse.

We had been our a good 4 hours and then once back at the van we spent the rest of the afternoon reading in the sun.
