Iona goes to Otley

Trip 7: June 2025,Otley RFC, Otley

The weir next to the old mill site

We arrived at Otley and although it was very busy we managed to find an empty pitch near the amenities.

After lunch we sat and read and then decided to take a walk. I planned a route along the river Wharf and then into town. The route took us by the Horse & Farrier pub so we had to stop for a drink. It was a good decision because the pub had Brew York beers.

Day 2:

Today we went for a walk upto the top of the escarpment. We managed to get to the pub on the top of Carlton Moor for a drink before working our way back down into Otley.

On the way back down into Otley we came across some fairy houses in the woods.

We then walked home along the other side of the river to the camp site.
Tea tonight was stuffed chicken breasts with an accompanying salad.

Further down the woods we stopped at the White House which was a farm years ago and it is now an education centre. It was closed today so we drank our own coffee before continuing down to Otley.

We happened to walk by the Bowling Green pub which is a Weatherspoons so we called in for a wine and a beer which were cheaper than a pint at the Horse & Farrier pub we visited yesterday. I think we will call in there again when we walk into town.

When we got back to Iona I cooked tea on the bbq but it was too cold and windy to eat outside. Sue later suffered after eating the sausages and spent some time talking to the toilet in the early hours.

Day 3:

We walked into Otley via the river.

Last night it rained heavily and today the river is higher and flowing much faster.

We walked around the town and we went into several shops but we didn’t buy anything. At lunchtime we walked to the Bowling Green pub and we sat outside in the sun. Sue bought us lunch which was good and very reasonable.

We then walked back along the river and home. The afternoon was warm and Sunny so we sat outside and read.

Day4:

The weather is great today so we are chilling around the motorhome. We did walk to the garden centre. The main idea was to buy some ice cream but they did not have any in tubs so Sue bought two little pots with two scoops in each. We managed to get them back to the campsite before they melted.

Sue also bought some Alpine plants, a garden mirror and a solar powered light.

Today is the last day for us and the campsite closes tomorrow so the rest of the day was spent by the motorhome, sat in the sun reading.
