Trip 4: April 2025, Kilnsea,Spurn Head.

It took us 2.5 hours to get to Kilnsea including a quick rest break. We were soon set up although I do wish we had a windbreak with us for a bit more privacy.

We walked to the coast and passed the pub and out onto Spurn. The idea was to just go to the RSPB site and turn around. We carried on and walked for 40 minutes halfway along Spurn before turning around.

We made our way back to the campsite and I suggested a drink at the pub. Unfortunately there was a power cut and the pub was shut until 18.00. We ended up sitting by the van with a drink which was just as good.
It was then we found that the chairs were damp where the water carrier had leaked. The good thing is that we are in full sun right up until dusk so the chairs have started to dry out and the van is very warm.
Sue cooked a Mary Berry stew tonight and after tea we settled down with a drink and the TV. Today we walked 7 miles.
Day 2:

Today we walked to the RSPB bird sanctuary and we followed the path to the sea, passing the sound mirror on the way. We got to the beach and walked towards Bridlington for about a mile. We then turned around and went beachcombing on the way back to Kilnsea.

We stopped at the remains of the WW2 fortifications where we had a coffee.

The walk then took us to the RSPB observatory. We joined the coastal path and made our way to the Crown & Anchor pub where we stopped for lunch of a Yorkshire Pudding wrap for me and a Curry for Sue.
When we got back to the van we had some new neighbours so we had a long chat with them. We finished the afternoon in the van reading. Todays walk was 6 miles.
Day 3:

Today we walked along the beach to Spurn point, stopping for a coffee near the old lighthouse.

We continued to the end of Spurn Point and followed the path around the various military remains, Search Light positions, gun emplacements, parade ground.

We passed the RNLI base which is no longer working as the lifeboat has been moved to Grimsby. After following the road back towards Kilnsea we stopped at the old Lighthouse, it is now a museum/ display building. The lighthouse was closed but we sat outside and ate lunch.
After lunch we continued the walk home but we stopped a couple of times to explore the old radio station and WREN telephone exchange.
The rest of the walk was easy until we transferred from roadway to sandy beach. Soft sand must be the hardest thing to walk across.
We called in at The Crown & Anchor for refreshments after our 10 mile walk. A couple of drinks later we left the pub and continued the last 500yd walk to the campsite. After unpacking the rucksacks we got the chairs out and sat outside in the sun until tea.
A great end to our three day trip.
