Iona goes back to School

Trip 11: Glebe House School,Hunstanton. July 2024

We arrived in Hunstanton around lunchtime. The stewards got a bit rushed because another 3 vans followed us in to Glebe House. We were given a pitch towards the bottom of the field but away from hedges and trees. Now we just need the sun to arrive or the dark clouds to blow over before we put up the quest or the wind break.

We have just finished our sandwiches and it has started to rain again but the sky is beginning to lighten up.

At 3pm we decided to go for a walk. We headed for the prom and walked into Hunstanton. Sue and her sister had already checked out the bars a couple of weeks ago so I let her lead me to a bar within the Princess Theatre.

We sat outside and had a couple of drinks each before walking back to the campsite.

Once home it seemed to brighten up so we put up the quest room, while doing this a fellow camper came to see what it was like and he was impressed that it only took a couple of minutes to get up.

We sat outside for about half an hour before the sun went behind the clouds and it began to get cold. We retreated inside for tea.

Day 2:

The weather had changed and it was forecast to be sunny all day so we stayed around the campsite.

Day 3:

Another great sunny day so after the normal jobs were done we walked into Hunstanton and made our way onto the beach. To be honest it is not the best beach in the world but we sat at the end of one of the breakwaters. The tide was out so we went paddling and then sat to eat our packed lunch.

Our day on the beach

The tide had turned and it came in fairly quickly to where we were sat. We packed up and walked to the prom and then made our way back to the campsite. It looks like the playing field campsite is now full..

The rest of the afternoon was spent reading in the sunshine. There are 76 large pitches and very few people packing to leave tomorrow

Day 4:

Today we spent the morning relaxing around the van. At 3pm we headed into Hunstanton and followed the coast path to Heacham. After just over 3 miles we arrived at Heacham and we then  headed to Sue’s sister’s static home. It was hot so we had a couple of beers before heading to the social club in the village. We stayed there for about an hour and polished off a couple of beers. We then headed for the bus stop to catch the bus back to Hunstanton.

We were going to get fish & chips but every chip shop had a queue to order and another queue waiting for their food, so we headed home.

Sue had now developed wine legs which were not working very well so I guided her home.

Day 5:

We again sat around the van in the sun and took the quest down before lunch. We started to get ready at 3pm to go back into Hunstanton to meet Elaine & Harvey. We then got a phone call saying it was pouring with rain in Heacham and they were going home to get changed and would ring us as they were catching the bus. In the end we all met up in Heacham at the theatre bar. Sue and I had managed to get a table outside.

There was a band playing on the green so we had a couple of drinks listening to them and chatting before moving off to the Marine Bar for some food.

We left Elaine & Harvey to catch the bus back to Heacham and we walked back home.

Home today although we had an issue as we tried to leave. The handbrake had been on since we parked up in the rain. Unfortunately the hand brake had locked on after several attempts to move and putting the handbrake on and off it eventually freed itself and we left the playing field with a couple of skid marks where we tried to drive off with the brakes on. The rest of the journey was easy with none of the normal holdups around Kings Lynn.
