Iona goes to the Cliffs

Trip 5: Sandy Gulls, Mundesley, Norfolk.

The drive to the campsite was fine and we were soon on our pitch which is on quite a slope. I tried the ramps but once I was on the top step, the ramps were tilting. I reverse off and spread gravel everywhere. Christine the warden brought a brush and I cleared the roadway of stone.

I tried the ramps again but I could only get to level three safely. This left the van with a 3° slope towards the cab. We are going to put up with it.

The wind is from the north and coming straight at us but the good news is that it is ideal for the hang gliders. We got quite a display throughout the afternoon.

Day 2:

Firstly I tripped the electric this morning by having everything on. Soon fixed but the early morning exercise trapped a nerve in my back so now I am suffering.

We did manage to walk along the beach towards Cromer. We walked 2.5 miles to the end of the breakwater. We did get a bit stuck at one point trying to climb over the breakwater, but we had to change our minds and return to the beach.

We found somewhere to sit at the end of the breakwater and ate lunch before turning round and heading home.

During our walk we saw how the cliffs have fallen and there is a house that is now hanging over the edge of the cliff.

Day 3:

We walked along the beach to Mundesley. We called in at the Ship Inn for a couple of beers. We sat outside in the sun before it started to get cold.

We left the pub and walked towards home. This time we followed the road. We stopped off at the Tesco convenience store to get a cake and some treats for Sue’s birthday.

Day 4:

Today we stayed in the motorhome, the wing was gusting at 35mph with showers.

At 16.30 we got wrapped up and walked into Mundesley. Our target was The Ship Inn. It was too cold to sit outside so we sat in the bar and had a drink while people watching.

We ordered Fish & Chip to take out. When they arrived we took them into the garden and sat under cover in case it rained. The fish was Ok but the chips did not look freshly cooked. They were not worth the £12 per portion but I decided not to complain and create a scene in the bar.

We walked back to the van, slowly because my back was a bit unstable from yesterday. That was the end to our last day in Mundesley. Home tomorrow.
